Update: Tony D revealed later on in the episode that he will be back in action next week.

Original: Tony D’Angelo squared off against Tommaso Ciampa in what ended up being Ciampa’s last match in NXT. D’Angelo ended Legado Del Fantasma’s dominant run in NXT as well. Unfortunately, he’ll have to wait for some time to get back inside the ring.

Shawn Michaels provided an update on Tony D’Angelo’s medical status during NXT this week. The Heartbreak Kid was joined by fellow Hall of Famers Road Dogg, X-Pac, Alundra Blayze, and Molly Holly as they discussed their picks for the Iron Survivor Challenge for NXT Deadline.

Alundra Blayze brought up Tony D’Angelo’s credentials and talked about his rise to the top of the black and gold brand. The WWE Hall of Famer said the Don of NXT deserved to wrestle in the Iron Survivor Challenge. Shawn Michaels replied by bringing up Tony D’s medical condition, noting that he was several weeks away from getting back at a one hundred percent.

For those not in the know, Tony D’Angelo was injured in a match with Wes Lee during a previous episode of NXT. The Don of NXT suffered a gruesome knee injury during the match, which was immediately stopped. D’Angelo later revealed he had “blown out his PCL in 100 places.”
